The Psychic’s Tale

First part in The Fitzwarren Inheritance Trilogy by a trilogy of authors – Chris Quinton :: RJ Scott :: Sue Brown

from Silver Publishing and from Amazon

“I curse you and your children’s children, that you shall all live out your allotted years, and that those years shall be filled with grief and loss and betrayal, even as you have betrayed and bereaved me.”

Four hundred years ago in rural England, a mob burned two men to death, but not before one of the victims, Jonathan Curtess, hurled a dreadful curse at the mob’s leader, Sir Belvedere Fitzwarren. The curse has followed the family through the centuries, bringing grief and loss to each generation.

Mark  Renfrew is a closeted psychic and openly gay. When his grandmother discovers a family link to a 17th century feud and a still-potent curse, she insists he investigates and do his best to end it. He travels to the village of Steeple Westford, and meets and falls for Jack Faulkner, an archaeologist. He also meets the Fitzwarrens, who are facing yet another tragedy.

Then Mark learns that the man who cursed them had twisted the knife by leaving three cryptic conditions that would lift the curse, and he knows he has to try to break the curse his ancestor had set.

FOOL‘S OATH – Second in the FOOL’S ODYSSEY Trilogy from Manifold Press

Xavi gives his word – and breaks it. In a rush of over-confidence on his part, a friend dies bloodily and he is forced to face the reality of his new nature and the depth of his relationship with Andreas. And then there’s the gold hidden in the walled-up crypt of the church…

Top 2 Bottom Reviews - Chris Quinton’s writing is spare, yet gives the reader exactly enough detail and description to allow for the building of a relationship with these characters and to become lost in the landscapes of a world set in the not-so-distant future.

One thing is certain: I’m a fool for the Fool’s Odyssey series. – Awarded 5 Kisses by Lisa

Blood, Lust and Erotica – Throughout the book, Chris carefully and subtly describes the intensity of emotions that Xavi and Andreas feel for each other and how Xavi copes with being a vampire.

All in all, I found it to be a page turner and cannot wait for the third and final installment of the trilogy to come out. I have to know what happens next to this incredibly sexy and downright dangerous couple and if matters that are alluded to throughout Fool’s Oath will come about. - Reviewed by Vampirique

STARFALL - From Silver Publishing – Now available as an e-book AND a paperback. Also available from Amazon

Ashazen Kiel Sa’Varonys is an illegal alien, in more ways than one. He’s come halfway across the galaxy in a search and rescue mission for his sister, Tria, the only survivor of a massacre that destroyed a new colony and most of his family. Refusing to accept she is dead, even though her ship crash-landed on the potentially hostile and prohibited planet Earth, the partial coordinates Tria managed to transmit leads him to a lake somewhere in America’s northeast. Ash has managed, so far, to keep his differences hidden from the natives for almost a year as he hunts for his beloved sister and the important data she carries, but the strain is telling on him and some of the inhabitants of Amassol, Vermont, are decidedly dangerous.

Ex-Marine and current PI Conn Sinclair is deep in the closet. Last year, after an extremely dangerous assignment, he slept with his partner, Faye Montani. They haven’t spoken cordially since. Feeling restless and unsettled in his life, he takes one last job from his boss at JG Investigations. It seems simple enough; track down Angi, an underage runaway, and return the girl to her parents before her eighteenth birthday. But when you take the tension and animosity between Conn and Faye, their boss’s determination they work together, the fact Angi’s eighteenth is only a matter of days away and they have no idea where she is, and add it to a street gang war and a stubborn teenager, anything can and will happen.

Review on Amazon - The attraction between Conn and Ash is, as the notes indicated, hot and immediate. Unlike many a story in this genre, however, the success of the story isn’t tied to gratuitous numbers of sexual moments. The building of tension, Conn and Ash’s growing desire and need for each other is masterfully done and their encounters fairly sizzle with sensuality. Ms. Quinton’s use of plot, character development and imagination make this story well worth reading at least once (or, as in my case, twice so far!) – awarded 5 Stars by Phantom4j

Reviewed on GoodReads – I love sci-fi, this is a wonderful book with fantastic characters. Good plot, well paced and very hot. I highly recommend it. – awarded 5 Stars by Diane Adams

Reviewed on GoodReads – I am lucky enough to have read this book before release. Ash, an alien, a Vyan, is looking for his sister, Tria – Conn is a PI on the trail of a runaway. When they meet in Amassol, Vermont, sparks fly. With elements of science fiction woven into a contemporary setting, and a story that features adventure, romance, street gangs, and the beautiful scenery in Vermont, Starfall is a book I would highly recommend… and you know me, I dont rec books very often. – awarded 5 Stars by RJ Scott

FOOL’S ERRAND from Manifold Press

First in the Fool’s Odyssey Trilogy

Xavi is a sometime hooker, sometime gigolo, working the rich pickings of wealthy tourists and bored socialites of Barcelona in 2042. His current meal ticket is Sophia Matas, the wife of a prominent politician. Then Sophia is assassinated and he’s the only witness. Within hours, Xavi finds himself in protective custody and in a safe house. His guardian is Andreas, a vampire liaising with the Barcelona police. Andreas needs to exert control – of himself, his abilities, and his relationships. Now he must keep Xavi safe. If he can keep Xavi in one place long enough. They embark on an affair that will define who and what they are, played out in an deadly dance of kill-or-be-killed danger.

Reviewed by RJ Scott – Writer – I adore this book, Andreas and Xavi connect on so many levels, and this is a love story with an adventure, a mystery, chases, hints of a D/s relationship, fights, and above all a unique insight into a community set in 2042 when vampires have an accepted place in society. Albeit it one looked at with some suspicion… I can not recommend this book enough, a very satisfying read. – Awarded 5 Stars by RJ

Reviewed by Michele’n'Jeff Reviews While Fool’s Errand is set in the not-so-distant future, there are no specifics that would necessarily qualify it as a futuristic novel. Anyone who might be expecting a sci-fi element won’t find that within the plot of this book. What the reader will find, however, is a story that holds some interesting complexities, a European locale that lends a sophisticated style, and an assortment of details gathered from various archetypes that combine to give a reasonably imaginative spin to the vampire mythos. – Awarded 4 kisses by Lisa

Reviewed by Coffee Time Romance – Chris Quinton writes a novel that allows the reader to explore the possibility of living side by side with people who are slightly less than normal. I found myself loving Andreas more and more as the story went. The story flowed smoothly and took me right to the last word without realizing I had read this story like a starving person. Fool’s Errand is well worth the read and I recommend you give it a try today. -Awarded 4 Cups by Delane

Reviewed by Reviews at Jessewave - I greatly enjoyed this story. The heroes are engaging and there are lots of great ideas which combine to create a vivid world in the future. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the trilogy and seeing where the author takes these characters. – Awarded 4.25 Stars by Jenre

Reviewed by BookWenches - The characters are well-formed and have a depth to them that makes them catch your interest. I particularly enjoyed Xavi. This young man is a street rat and sometimes prostitute, but he has a personal code of honor that makes him something more than merely an opportunist. He has only ever had himself to trust, so it is a struggle for him to accept the submissive role that Andreas thrusts upon him. In the development of the relationship between these two, sex is important, but trust is key. Fool’s Errand seems pretty self-contained; it concludes in a satisfying enough manner that makes it enjoyable all on its own. However, since there will apparently be two more stories in the series, I’ll be watching for them. I’m very interested to see where Ms. Quinton takes this storyline. - Awarded 4.25 by Bobby

Reviewed by Three Dollar Bill Reviews – Choosing to set it in a futuristic Barcelona creates a unique milieu from the onset, and the author milks this for everything it’s worth. The setting crackles, rich with details, and the pacing barrels forward from plot point to plot point with little room to breathe in between. Since Andreas isn’t actually the primary investigator, this is more action than mystery. The real developments in determining the facts behind the murder come from Aguilar, and often off-screen, so if a reader is looking for a whodunit type of story, this isn’t it. The focus is on Andreas and Xavi, and the constant machinations of their romance and Andreas’s efforts to keep Xavi safe. The end result is an engrossing, entertaining read, with promises of what is yet to come. – Awarded Four Stars

ALOES – from Manifold Press

A fluke accident puts Perry in a coma. When he awakes, his scrambled synapses have given him a talent; he can tell truth from lies. This, plus the new client, Drew Connors, who is too attractive for Perry’s peace of mind, Drew’s contentious family and the dilapidated old mansion Perry has to restore for him, not to mention the anonymous threats that escalate to attempted murder, all ensure that Perry’s life will never be the same again.

Reviewed by Reviews by Jessewave In its first few chapters alone, Aloes takes us through all the details of the breakup, the separation of finances, the oppressive concern of the co-workers, the search for a new place to live, the questioning of one’s own attractiveness, the loneliness, and the uncertainty — and it’s all fascinating and complex. This is a full-bodied story that cuts no corners when casting its spell over the readers. Awarded 4.75 stars by Val.

Reviewed by Literary Nymphs Aloes starts off with a bang, one that not only turns Perry’s day into a living hell but also grabs the reader’s attention. A story about starting over, Aloes shows the struggle Perry goes through as he comes to grips with being single, deciding what changes need to be made in his life and how soon to start a new relationship. There are many secondary characters in this story, two of whom would make good romantic partners for Perry, yet it is Drew that readers, as well as Perry, will see is the better choice. The author also uses this time of change to introduce a little bit of mystery into the story. As someone goes after Perry, each new character becomes a suspect, and I was constantly wondering what would happen next and who would turn out to be the bad guy. The author uses just the right combination of romance and mystery when putting this story together so that neither element is cheated. Awarded 4 Nymphs by Critter Nymph

The ending threw me for a loop, I kept looking at my computer saying “this can’t be it, where’s the rest of it”. I am hoping the ending might lead to a sequel or something because I am curious as to what will become of Perry and his new lover. So Quinton please hook us up, I want more. Awarded 4 Stars

SEA CHANGE from Manifold Press

Injured on duty and no longer fit for active service, soon-to-be-ex-Coast Guard Bran Kaulana is drifting, filling his days helping out at the Wai Ola Rescue Center, one of Honolulu’s wildlife charities. He’s working with the new veterinary, Steve Lucas, a man drawn to O’ahu by his fascination with dolphins.

As their friendship slowly deepens, the two men are caught up in the mystery of injured seals and dolphins, a ruthless gang of smugglers and a not so dormant undersea lava vent.

Reviewed by Literary Nymphs – Sea Change was a very good, easy-going romance that I hated to see end. The author took their time building the various relationships in this story, which allowed me to get to know the characters. Because they took this time, it was easy to see how strongly Bran and Steve belonged together, as well as understood the issues that made them reluctant to take the final step from friend to lover. There is also a touch of mystery woven in the story as the men and their friends try to discover what or who is injuring local sea life. When the mystery touches on Bran’s past, it only draws him and Steve closer together. If you are looking for something that is actually a romance story, then give Sea Change by Chris Quinton a try. Awarded 4.5 Nymphs by Critter Nymph

Reviewed by Reviews by Jessewave – The layers of cinéma vérité type subplots through the middle are colorful, vivid, and well written, even if they do slow the pace. The thriller plot that dominates the last 130 pages is satisfyingly gritty and gripping, and the inclusion towards the end of some shark behavior and some very unusual dolphin behavior gave me a total chill of excitement. Ultimately, Sea Change is an intricate and rewarding story that offers satisfying escapism as it transports you into the complicated lives of two appealing alpha males living in an unforgettable location. Awarded 4.5 stars by Val

Reviewed by Elisa’s Reviews and Ramblings - Now in any “ordinary” length novel, the gay for you sub-plot would have been the easy card to play, and as often happen, the sudden turn from straight to gay of one of the character would have been not so much supported by his emotional development. In Sea Change instead the author has plenty of time, and story, to make it believable, and so when Steve arrives to the conclusion that he is in love with Bran, it’s not sudden, but a well ripe, and well thought, decision. As usual I concentrated on the romance plot, but this is not “only” a romance novel, it’s something more: there is the setting, that can tags this novel as multicultural, the adventure and even the quest of a man who is searching for his future. But well, from my perspective, the romance is very important, and even if here it arrives a bit late (more or less ¾ of the book), be patient, and I will assure you, it will be worth the wait.
